Miracles come in times of need. You just have to know how to appreciate them.
The other day I was standing out in the cold, waiting for a place to open. They opened an hour late, leaving me there. I really dislike the cold. But, I wasn't as mad as I could have been. I had been speaking to my soul mate and I was all smiles. Grinning ear to ear.
Sitting on the bench, I noticed a woman going through her groceries as if they were Christmas presents. I didn't think anything of it at first, then I saw my favorite brand of bran flakes. Food pantry? Hmmm.
I saw they were giving food pantry out at the park. I asked one woman who was very rude and said, homeless people only. I explained that I have a disabled mom and how we could really use it. (Besides, why are they giving food to cook if it's only for the homeless.) The other people there were so nice. They hooked me up with food and a hot meal. I wasn't hungry and I'm pretty sure it had meat, but it was so warm, heating my purple little fingers. I was extremely grateful.
For those of you that don't know,I struggle every day with stuff. Just because I'm not homeless (yet?) doesn't mean there's always a possibility, doesn't mean I struggle to put food on the table, pay the bills and rent, and doesn't mean that I don't deserve the food I get. I cherish it. And for people like me, it is like Christmas. Being excited about what you get. I truly am the meaning of the starving artist some days, because I refuse to treat myself to fast food, etc.
I'm not complaining, it is a life lesson that I will get through. And when or if I ever reach a point in my life without worry, I'll never forget who I was, and I'll never forget how happy I am when people are so nice.
My art didn't sell from the show, but people went and I had a good time. People do appreciate what I give back. I didn't come out empty handed. Someone very helpful, a complete stranger who had suggested I do shows in the first place, donated money. It wasn't much, but I can say, it touched my heart. I can say, its people like that who make me want to do more and I am very pleased.
On the way home, with all that food and love, in the bitter cold, I managed to be a dumbass and take the elevator to the wrong side of the tracks, I didn't notice till a few stops away. I thought, great, now I'm going to have to carry all this across, and up and down a ton of stairs, waiting underground forever.
When I got off, it was truly a miracle. A B train was stopped in the middle track, which divides the station. B,with all doors open, waiting for me to pass through it, with my train right there, awaiting my presence. I felt like a guardian angel helped me that day. I was warm, on my way home and with plenty of food for my family and I.
